Gardens have never been bigger business or more popular thanks to all those TV programmes which show us how to create our dream garden or even, in some cases, do it all for us.
Our gardens should be quiet, restful, relaxing places, our own little or large pieces of 'the wild' tamed to our own requirements. Imagination, when it comes to creating our garden, can be limitless. Garden centres, specialist suppliers and nurseries cater for our every need; ponds and water features, garden ornaments of every kind, trellises, decking, gazebos, arbours, garden furniture, luxurious lawns, exotic plants, more traditional garden favourites and some even offer wild flower seeds, enabling us to create our very own wild flower meadow.
There are few more satisfying pursuits than spending time tending our gardens and then being able to see the results of our labours as flowers and shrubs blossom in all their glory, attracting local wildlife, and perhaps best of all, creating those wonderful calming scents that pervade the evening air and waft through the windows on warm summer nights.
Of course a garden doesn't take care of itself and involves hard work, but the garden centres are there offering all the tools we need, everything from electric lawn mowers to the latest composting bins.
